The other day ago I found myself unable to add a new credit card to my App store account. This meant that I was unable to even download free apps from the app store. Each time I tried, I was forwarded to a screen that prompted me to update my billing information. After entering my credit details, I was then told the dreaded news that I couldn’t add a new credit card because too many were already associated with my account.
This happened because I usually use a prepaid gift card with my account just in case Apple servers get hacked, I didn’t want to put my personal card at risk. When the money runs off the card from me buying apps, musics, and games, I would just add a new one.
After chatting with live support, I was informed that despite me purchasing a $25 gift card and having balance in my app store account, due to Apples 5 card limit per every 30 days, I would not be able to perform any purchases until this time period elapsed.
I understand that this may be some anti-theft/anti-fraud mechanism and from a company standpoint it does look a little suspicious to see a person using multiple cards, but other companies allow us to delete previous cards which they do not.
If you don’t want to wait the full 30 days, here is a cool work around that I found that works.
Step 1) Open up the Itunes App on your computer
Step 2) Delete your current credit or debit card inside your account
Step 3) Close down iTunes
Step 4) Visit store.apple.com
Step 5) Inside account settings click on change your default billing or shipping info. Enter your new card details.
Step 6) Open Itunes on the comp or App Store on your Iphone or Ipad and your new card details will be on file.
